In 1957, O. Winston
Link, a famed New York photographer came to Bristol, Tenn to the N&W
railroad station to photograph and document the disappearing steam engines
of the day. Haynes was a "hostler" at the train station in
Bristol and had the pleasure of help Mr. Link photograph these great
steam engines. They would spend hours setting up the flash bulbs to light
the shots as most of the photographs were done at night. Haynes had the
distinct honor of being the cover photo for Mr. Link's train photo book,
"Steam, Steel and Stars."
